Shacks East Sussex

Shacks East Sussex

Unique off-grid stays in the heart of the Sussex countryside, where you can leave the everyday behind and settle into a slower rhythm.

Tucked among ancient hedgerows, with nearby award-winning vineyards, historic towns and the chalky cliffs of The South Downs, these shacks offer a beautiful blend of comfort, nature, sustainability and adventure.

Blackthorn Hut

Laughton, Sussex

Sleeps 2 | Beds 1 | Pet Friendly

There's an easy pace to life at Blackthorn. Buzzards circle overhead on warm afternoons, rabbits emerge as evening draws in and the hedgerows hum with life through the changing seasons. Inside, Blackthorn is thoughtfully simple. A king size bed positioned for lazy lie-ins, a kitchenette stocked with fresh coffee beans and loose leaf tea, a shower room with eco-friendly toiletries, and a wood burner ready for cooler evenings. Everything you need is here, and very little that you don't.

When you're ready to explore, Sussex rewards curiosity. Wander the winding streets of nearby Lewes, where independent shops, historic pubs and a Norman castle overlook the town. Discover the region's celebrated vineyards, producing award-winning sparkling wines from the rolling South Downs. Spend an afternoon at Glyndebourne, where world-class opera meets quintessential English countryside, or head south to the dramatic cliffs of the Seven Sisters, where sea, sky and chalk meet in spectacular fashion. Then return to Blackthorn as the sun dips below the horizon and the fields settle into silence once more.

Hawthorn Hut

Laughton, Sussex

Sleeps 2 | Beds 1 | Pet Friendly

There's a particular kind of calm at Hawthorn - the sort that takes a day or two to properly settle into. Downy woodpeckers work the trees at first light, hares move through the long grass at dusk, and somewhere close by, a tawny owl keeps its own hours. This is Sussex doing what it does best: hedgerows heavy with hawthorn blossom, fields that roll on longer than you expect. Inside, you'll find all the essentials - a king size bed beneath the window, a kitchenette with fresh coffee beans, a shower room with eco-friendly toiletries, and nothing asking for your attention.

Beyond the doorstep, the county opens up. Some of the finest sparkling wine in the world is made a short drive from here, in vineyards that have quietly out-scored Champagne in blind tastings. Glyndebourne's opera season runs through the summer months in a converted country house nearby. Historic Lewes, all cobbles and castle walls, is close enough for an afternoon. And the Seven Sisters - that great chalk-white wave of coastline - are worth the drive on a clear day, if only to remember how small you are.
